Aryna Sabalenka lost the US Open 2023 final to Cori Coco Gauff. The Belarusian was very close for winning the trophy after taking the first set by 6:2, but allowed a reversal. However, she will top the WTA rankings from Monday. The 25-year-old tennis player could not contain her emotions after the end of the match, but congratulated her rival and said that she hopes to be able to beat her in the future.
“I’m most proud not so much of the ranking, but rather of what I did, of the control over emotions that I was able to impose on myself. I would like to congratulate Coco because she played amazingly and deserved this title. you win a lot more. I hope we play many more finals, hopefully with a different result. But you played amazing”, said Aryna Sabalenka. “I want to send a lot of love to my family, who I know were looking after me. I’m sorry for the result. My team is fired after this defeat (she says with a smile). You are the strongest team, thank you for everything you’ve done for me! I love you!”, added the Belarusian.
Aryna Sabalenka will be the women’s number one from the start of the next week. This season, she won Australian open title, WTA 500 Adelaide International, and WTA 1000 Madrid Open. She was also the runner-up at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open and WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.
