Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka claimed her 12th straight Grand Slam win this year after defeating Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:4) in the quarter-finals of the French Open.
Aryna Sabalenka, who triumphed at the Australian Open in January, played a strong match against the extremely motivated Ukrainian tennis player, who definitely received the crowd’s support.
Elina Svitolina, who became a mother eight months ago, started strongly, winning her serves without much difficulty until 4:4, when world’s No 2 Aryna Sabalenka made the first break of the match with a flawless forehand backhand. That break was enough for the Belarusian tennis player to win the first set.
Elina Svitolina reached her first break of the match to take a 2:0 game lead in the second set, but Aryna Sabalenka responded with four games in a row. The Ukrainian, who was playing in the quarter-finals of Roland Garros for the fourth time in her career, tried everything to equalized the score, but was unable to return the break and eventually lost by 4:6. Thus, Elina Svitolina again failed to reach the semi-finals of the French Open.
After the match, Elina Svitolina did not shake hands with winner Aryna Sabalenka.
For a place in the final, Aryna Sabalenka will face the Czech Karolina Muchova, who earlier today defeated the 2021 finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in two sets.
So far, Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Muchova have one match. It is from 2019, ending with a two-set success of the Belarusian tennis player.
