Aryna Sabalenka called into question her participation at Wimbledon

Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) has called into question her participation in this year’s Wimbledon tournament two days before her first round match against Emina Bektas (USA).

Two-time Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka has battled various health issues in recent weeks and also suffered from a stomach virus during her Roland Garros quarter-final loss to Mira Andreeva (Russia) before pulling out of the tournament in Berlin on early this month because of a shoulder injury.

The tennis player from Belarus revealed that it took her “five or six days” to get over her illness in Paris and now she has to deal with a rare shoulder problem which is affecting her serve.

Asked if she might not play on Monday, Aryna Sabalenka admitted: “There’s always a chance, yes”.

“I’m not 100 percent ready right now. We’re doing everything we can, together with my team, to make sure I can play my first game here, but I’m not 100 percent ready. It’s something that will I have to think about it. If it doesn’t, I can only make things worse. I don’t want to risk the rest of the season. I’ve been doing a lot of different things for the last week. I have another day and a half to try things and let’s see what state I’ll be in. I’m keeping my hopes up”, explained Aryna Sabalenka.
