Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (Russia) defeated the second-seeded Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) in the first round of the WTA 250 Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico. The Russian tennis player won the match by 2-0 (6:4, 6:2) in 1:46 hours.

Despite the result, the match was quite equal and both players had their chances. Anna Karolina Schmiedlova took a lead of 5:2 in the first set with two breaks in her favor, but Marie Bouzkova succeeded to return one of them to stay in the match. She also missed two breakpoints to equalize in the 10th game of the set, but finally, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova closed the set at 6:4.
