The Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya brought another surprise in the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open after eliminating the 7th-seeded Daria Kasatkina by 2-1 (6:2, 2:6, 6:3) in a match that lasted 2:15 hours.
The first set started with as many as 6 breaks, but Anna Kalinskaya won 2 more than her opponent and closed it by 6:2. However, Daria Kasatkina improved her gameplay in the second set and took the initiative from the very beginning. She took a lead by 4:1 and after an exchange of one break for each, she closed the set in her favor and equalized the result to 1-1.
The third set, however, was under the total dominance of Anna Kalinskaya, who took a lead by 5:0 after 2 breaks. By the end of the match, she only needed to maintain the lead and that succeeded to close the set by 6:2.
Thus, Anna Kalinskaya qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open, where will face Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) who defeated Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) by 2-1 (0:6, 7:5, 6:3).
