Angelique Kerber does not have high expectations for the AO2022

The former champion Angelique Kerber does not have high expectations for the upcoming Australian Open tennis championship, after her training was disrupted due to the coronavirus. The 33-year-old German did not play in a preparatory tournament for the first time. She had COVID-19 last December and canceled her participation in Sydney last week.

“I did not do the best training, but I am happy and grateful to be here”, said the tennis player. “I don’t have high expectations of myself. For me, every round will be a success”, added Angelique Kerber, who triumphed in Australia in 2016.

Angelique Kerber is sixteenth-seeded for the AO2022 and will face Estonian player Kaia Kanepi in the first round.

Angelique Kerber is a German professional tennis player, who is a former world No 1 and winner of three Grand Slam tournaments. She made her professional debut in 2003 and began her rise to prominence upon reaching the semifinals of the 2011 US Open as the No 92-ranked player in the world.

Angelique Kerber has won 13 career singles titles – across all surfaces – including multiple Grand Slam titles: the 2016 Australian Open, the 2016 US Open, and the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. She has also won a silver medal while representing Germany at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
