Angelina Topic won the high jump gold in Banska Bystrica

The Serbian athlete Angelina Topic won the high jump gold at the 30th Banskobystricka latka in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. The silver went to Lia Apostolovski (Slovenia) with 1.95m, while the bronze was for Mirela Demireva (Bulgaria) with 1.93m.

Angelina Topic equaled the national record in the event, jumping 1.97m, to win the gold. She jumped this height on her first attempt, having previously had no mistakes at the previous heights. The Serbian athlete only failed in her attempts tonight were at 2.00m where she made three mistakes.

Mirela Demireva, who won the Balkan indoor title in Istanbul on Saturday, equaled her season’s personal best of 1.93m, succeeding to jump the height on her second attempt. Safina Sadullayeva (Uzbekistan) and Eleanor Patterson (Australia) remained fourth and fifth also with 1.93m, but covering the height at their third attempt.

Angelina Topic is a Serbian athlete specializing in the high jump. At the age of 17, she won the bronze medal at the 2022 European Athletics Championships, becoming the youngest medalist of the entire championships. The same year, Angelina Topic earned also bronze at the World Under-20 Championships. She is the current Serbian record holder for the high jump indoors and out, and also holds joint world U18 best outdoors.
