One of Serbia’s biggest talents in athletics, Angelina Topic, achieved her second consecutive victory in the Diamond League. The 18-year-old athlete, a bronze medalist at the European Women’s Championships in Munich in 2022, dominated the competition in Marrakesh (Morocco) with a new national record and covered standard for participation in the Paris
2024 Olympics of 1.98m. Angelina Topic managed this height from the third attempt. After that, the young Serbian also attacked the bar at 2.00m, but without success. Just a week ago, she recorded her first Diamond League victory in Doha.
Before covering 1.98m, the young Serbian high jumper overcame from the first attempt 1.81m, 1.87m, from the second 1.91m and again from the first 1.95m.
The second place in the high jump sector was won by Christina Honsel (Germany) with 1.91m, and third with the same result was Lia Apostolovski (Slovenia).
In the women’s shot put, two-time world champion Chase Jackson (USA) won the gold with a new tournament record of 20.00m. She sent into history the record of the legendary New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams of 19.69m, set in 2014. The second place in the shot put sector was taken by Yemisi Ogunleye (Germany) with 19.40m, and third was the world indoor champion from Glasgow this winter Sarah Mitton (Canada) with 19.36m.
