Estonian tennis player Anett Kontaveit qualified for the second round of the WTA 1000 Rome Open after defeating Alycia Parks (USA) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1) in 66 minutes.
The Estonian lost the first gave of the first set, but won 6 games in a row to close it by 6:1, making the same achievement in the second set to win the match in a little over an hour. In the second round, Anett Kontaveit will face 16th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia).
Jasmine Paolini (Italy) also won her first-round match versus Xinyu Wang (China) by 2-1 (6:4, 6:7, 6:2) and will face the 7th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan).
In the other matches from the WTA 1000 Rome Open, Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic) defeated Kaia Kanepi (Estonia) by 2-1 (6:0, 4:6, 6:2), while Sofia Kenin (USA) eliminated Cristina Bucsa (Spain) by 2-1 (6:3, 6:7, 7:5) and Caty McNally (UK) defeated Dalila Spiteri (Italy) by 2-0 (6:0, 6:1).
Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus) eliminated Leylah Fernandez (Canada) by 2-1 (7:6, 4:6, 6:3).
