Anett Kontaveit defeated Belinda Bencic and qualified for the semifinals in St Petersburg

Estonian tennis player Anett Kontaveit beat the Swiss Olympic champion Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals of the St Petersburg Tennis Tournament. The Estonian, who is the second-seeded, won by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2) for 104 minutes.

In the semifinals, she will face Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, who is 7th-seeded. In the other semifinal, the Greek Maria Sakari, who is the top-seeded in the tournament, will play versus the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu.

The 26-year-old Anett Kontaveit is ninth on the WTA rankings and has five titles last year. Her best Grand Slam result was the semifinals of the US Open 2019.

The tournament in St Petersburg is of the rank of WTA 500 and this year has a prize fund of 703,000 USD.
