Anett Kontaveit and Maria Sakkari qualified for the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Qatar Open after straight-set victories.
The 6th-seeded Maria Sakkari defeated the American teenager Cori “Coco” Gauff with 2-0 (6:3, 6:3) in a match that lasted 83 minutes. The Greek played made 2 breaks in each of the sets, winning the match at the second match point. Maria Sakkari won 72% of the 1st Serve Points and 62% of the 2nd Serve Points.
In the sem-finals, Maria Sakkari will face the winner between the top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
The 4th-seeded Anett Kontaveit qualified for the semi-finals after a victory versus Tunisian Ons Jabeur with 2-0 (6:4, 6:1). There was some intrigue in the first set, when both of the players won their serving games until the very end and the Estonian made a break in the last game to close the set. In the second set, however, Anett Kontaveit made an early break and another one, in the end, to win the match at the first match point.
In the semi-finals, Anett Kontaveit will face the winner between Garbine Muguruza and Jelena Ostapenko.
