Anastasia Potapova misses WTA 250 Hamburg European Open due to visa problems

The Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova will miss the WTA 250 Hamburg European Open tennis tournament in Germany due to visa problems, she announced on her profile on the Instagram social network.

“I’m sorry to have to announce this, but I have to withdraw from the tournament in Hamburg due to visa issues. My team and I submitted the documents on time, but unfortunately the review was delayed. I really enjoyed playing in Hamburg last year and hope to be able to return there in 2024”, wrote Anastasia Potapova. “At the moment, my team and I are doing everything we can to prepare as well as possible for the competitions in the USA”, added the 22-year-old tennis player.

The tournament in Hamburg is of the WTA 250 category, takes place on clay and will last until July 29. Last year, Anastasia Potapova reached the semi-finals.

Anastasia Sergeyevna Potapova has a career-high singles ranking of world No 21 by the WTA, achieved on June 19, 2023, and a doubles ranking of world No 40, reached on December 5, 2022. Anastasia Potapova is a former junior world No. 1, as well as the 2016 Wimbledon Championships girls’ singles champion.
