Ana Ivanovic will return to tennis at the 2021 WTA Serbian Open

The retired former world number one Ana Ivanovic will return to tennis at the 2021 WTA Serbian Open held in Belgrade from May 17th to May 23rd. The surprising news was announced by the organizers of the tournament.

It is not yet known whether she will take part in some sort of charity match or exhibition match but Serbia Open director Djordje Djokovic confirmed the news while making an appearance at a local morning show.

The former world number one is officially retired since 2016. She was ranked No. 1 in the world in 2008, holding the top ranking for a total of 12 weeks. Ana Ivanovic has a total of 15 career titles, including the winner of the French Open in 2008. She was also a runner-up of the Australian Open in 2008.

In late December 2016, she announced her retirement, citing being no longer able to perform to a high standard as a major factor
