Jessica Pegula is an American professional tennis player. She has career-high WTA rankings in singles and doubles of world No. 3, both achieved on October 24, 2022. Jessica Pegula has won two singles titles and six doubles titles on the WTA Tour, one WTA Challenger doubles title, and seven ITF doubles titles. She is a five-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist in singles.
Jessica Pegula was born on February 24, 1994, in Buffalo, New York, United States. She started playing tennis at an early age. At only 12 years old she reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships. During her youth career, Jessica Pegula won the titles at the 2007 J2 Causeway Bay \ Hong Kong Open Junior Championships and the 2009 J100 San Jose \ Costa Rica Bowl. She was also the runner-up at the 2010 Copa Gerdau.
Jessica Pegula made her ITF professional debut at in 2009 at the $50,000 W80 Indian Harbour Beach, FL (USA), but lost in the first round. During the same season, she played also at the $15,000 Hilton Head Island, SC (USA), reaching the quarter-finals.
In 2010, she played at three ITF tournaments – $50,000 Grapevine, TX (USA), $25,000 W25 Redding, CA (USA), and $50,000 Kansas City, MO (USA). However, she did not achieve significant success in them.
Jessica Pegula made her ITF breakthrough in 2011 when the reached her first final at the $25,000 Lutz, FL (USA). During the season she reached the quarter-finals of the $50,000 W80 Indian Harbour Beach, FL (USA), $50,000 Carson, CA (USA), and $50,000 Boston, MA (USA).
Jessica Pegula made her WTA debut in 2012 when she reached the main scheme of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open. Despite losing in the first round, she showed her skills and gameplay, impressing all the fans. During the year, she played two more ITF finals at the $60,000 Sacramento, CA (USA) and W100 Vancouver (Canada), but lost both of them. She reached also the semi-finals of the $100,000 Marseille (France) and $50,000 W60 Toronto (Canada).
In 2013, Jessica Pegula played in WTA and ITF tours. She started the season with participation at the WTA 250 Shenzhen Longgang Gemdale Open but lost in the first round. However, a few weeks later, she reached the third round of the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open. She played at the semi-final of the $25,000 W25 Pelham, AL (USA), and quarter-finals of the $100,000 W100 Midland, MI (USA), $60,000 Dothan, AL (USA), $50,000 W60 Saguenay (Canada), $50,000 W60 Toronto (Canada), and $50,000 Captiva Island, FL (USA).
Jessica Pegula made her Grand Slam debut in 2015. She played at the US Open and reached the second round. During the season she reached also the second round of the WTA 250 Coupe Banque Nationale presentee par Mazda in Quebec City, Canada.
In 2016, Jessica Pegula reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Citi Open and the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Coupe Banque Nationale presentee par Mazda in Quebec City, Canada. In the ITF tour, she reached the semi-finals of the $50,000 Maui, HI (USA), $10,000 W15 Orlando, FL (USA), and $60,000 Dothan, AL (USA).
Jessica Pegula reached her first WTA final in 2018. She played in the final of the WTA 250 Coupe Banque Nationale presentee par Mazda in Quebec City, Canada, losing to Pauline Parmentier (France). She also reached the final of the $50,000 W60 Honolulu, HI (USA). During the season, she also reached the semi-final of the WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series.
In 2019, Jessica Pegula won her first WTA title at the WTA 250 Citi Open. Earlier in the season, she also played in the finals of the WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series, $100,000 W100 Midland, MI (USA). She also reached the third round of the WTA 250 Credit One Charleston Open. Thus, Jessica Pegula entered for the first time in the WTA Top 100, finishing the season as the world’s No 83.
She started the 2020 season amazingly, reaching the final of the WTA 250 ASB Classic. After two quarter-finals of Challenger Series tournaments, during the summer, she played in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open. At the US Open, she reached the third round. Thus, she ended the season as the world’s No 63.
In 2021, Jessica Pegula made her breakthrough. She played in the quarter-finals for the Australian Open and WTA 1000 Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships, as well as the semi-finals of the WTA 500 Qatar TotalEnergies Open. At the following WTA 1000 Miami Open and WTA 1000 Madrid Open, she reached the third rounds, before reaching the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Rome Open. At the French Open / Roland Garros, Jessica Pegula reached the third round, while at the WTA 1000 Rogers Cup, she played in the semi-finals. She continues playing at the top level, reaching the third round of the US Open, WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open, and WTA 500 Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. At the end of the season, she played in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open. These fantastic results sent Jessica Pegula into the world’s Top 20 and she finished the season as the world’s No 18.
In 2022, she performed even stronger, starting with a quarter-final at the Australian Open, continuing with the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, and final at the WTA 1000 Madrid Open. She also reached the quarter-finals of the French Open / Roland Garros and the US Open. She also played in the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Rogers Cup and quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open. At the end of the season, she won her second and most prestigious WTA title at the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron. Jessica Pegula played also at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth but registered thee losses. Thus, she finished the season as the world’s No 3.
In 2023, Jessica Pegula reached again the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, and semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships, and was the runner-up at the WTA 500 Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
