American freestyle skier Kai Owens, who fell badly and injured her face during a training session on baboons yesterday, did not participate in the first round of qualifications at the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
The 17-year-old Kai Owens, who was born in China and grew up in the United States, had to start fourth in qualifying yesterday. On Wednesday, she posted photos of her bruised and swollen face on Instagram and said she had a “small accident”.
“I’m doing well, I’m in high spirits and I’m working with a medical team to make the best decisions”, said the American, thanking her fans for their support and good wishes.
Kai Owens is making her debut at the Olympics this year. She was born in China, but adopted at 1-year-old by an American and grew up in the US. She competed in the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2021, where she placed sixth in women’s ski moguls.
