Alexis Holmes is an American track and field athlete who competes over 400m. She is world champion and NCAA champion, as well as world and national record holder at 4x400m mixed relay.
Alexis Holmes was born on January 28, 2000, in Hamden, Connecticut, United States. She attended Cheshire Academy and Penn State, where was named Big Ten women’s freshman of the year in 2019, before transferring and graduating from the University of Kentucky in 2022. Running for the University of Kentucky, Alexis Holmes was part of a women’s 4x400m relay team that set a new college record time. They also won the NCAA Division 1 title in 2022.
Alexis Holmes started her competitive career in 2016. She competed at the Sacramento USATF U17 National Junior Olympic Championships in 100m, 200m, and 400m, winning the bronze in 400m.
In 2018, she earned the gold at the New York New Balance Indoor Nationals in 200m and the silver in 400m, as well as the gold at the State College Blue and White in 300m.
In 2019, Alexis Holmes won her first major honor, earning the silver at the Pan American U20 Championships in 400m and the gold in 4x400m relay, as well as another silver at the USA U20 Championships and the bronze at the NCAA Div. I Indoor Championships in 400m. During the season she proved to be one of the top American college competitors in 400m.
Alexis Holmes continued improving her results in 2020, winning the gold at the SEC Indoor Championships in 400m, as well as the silver in the 4x400m relay. She triumphed with gold at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, Rod McCravy Memorial, and Jim Green Invitational at the 4x400m relay.
In 2021, Alexis Holmes dominated at the Cardinal Classic, winning the gold in the 500m and the silver in the 4x400m relay, and McCravy Green Invitational, winning the gold in the 400m and 4x400m relay.
Alexis Holmes made her biggest breakthrough in athletics in 2022. She won the gold at the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Championships in 4x400m relay, as well as the silver in 400m. She also earned the bronze at the NCAA Div. I Indoor Championships in 4x400m relay. In the 4x400m relay, she triumphed with the titles at the Southeastern Conference Championships, Drake Relays, Florida Relays, etc.
In 2023, Alexis Holmes reached her biggest achievement so far, winning the gold at the Budapest World Athletics Championships in the 4x400m mixed relay. During the season she also earned the gold at the prestigious Ed Murphey Classic and 36th Meeting Citta’ Di Padova in 400m.
