World number one Iga Swiatek snapped her 37-match winning streak and lost in the third round of Wimbledon tennis tournament.
The Polish player lost to Alize Cornet with 0-2 (4:6, 2:6) in 1:33 hours. The French player reached the fourth round of Wimbledon for the first time since 2004. Iga Swiatek allowed five breaks and made 33 unforced errors against only 7 for Alize Cornet. The Pole has not lost on the court since February this year and has won six titles in a row.
This is not the first surprise that Alize Cornet has made at the tournament in London. The only other time she reached the fourth round of a grass-court Grand Slam was in 2014, when she eliminated Serena Williams.
In the fourth round of the 2022 Wimbledon, Alize Cornet will face Ajla Tomljanovic, who eliminated 13th-seeded Barbora Krejcikova.
Meanwhile, Croatia’s Petra Martic also advances to the fourth round after beating 8th-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) with 2-0 (6:2, 7:6).
In the next round, Petra Martic will face 17th-seeded Elena Rybakina.
