Alize Cornet lost WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open

Alize Cornet (France) lost at the start of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open to Evgeniya Rodina (Russia) by 0-2 (2:6, 5:7). Thus, the French tennis player, who is the 2022 Australian Open quarter-finalist, leaves the tournament already in the first round.

The match started perfectly for Evgeniya Rodina, who is WTA No 427, breaking the serve of her opponent already in the first game. She took the first set under control and with another break in the 7th game closed the set at 6:2. The second set started in the same way, but this time Alize Cornet returned the break immediately and did not retreat. Both players exchanged another break and the set was running equally, but in the 11th game, Evgeniya Rodina achieved another break, which was enough for her to close the second set at 7:5.

In the next round, Evgeniya Rodina will face the 2nd-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus).
