American sprinter Aleia Hobbs became the first athlete for 2023 with a result under 7 sec in 60m. The 26-year-old runner first set a personal best of 7.05 sec in the heats in Fayetteville, then lowered her mark to 6.98 sec in the final. Thus, she became the 13th athlete in history to run under 7 sec in the 60m indoors.

With this result, she also tied for ninth place in the all-time global rankings alongside Jamaican superstars Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah.

Aleia Hobbs is an American professional track and field athlete specializing in sprints. She won four national collegiate titles in 2018, winning the 60m at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships, the 100m and the 4x100m relay at the NCAA Division I Championships, and the 100 m at the US Championships. Aleia Hobbs represented the United States at the 2019 World Relays, anchoring the United States to gold.

At the same event, fifth in the 200m at the World Outdoor Championships in Eugene last year, Abby Steiner won the 400m in 50.59 seconds.
