Spanish soccer player Aitana Bonmati wins Ballon d’Or award for 2023. She was awarded with the most prestigious individual award in football at a special ceremony in Paris by tennis star Novak Djokovic.
With her club Barcelona Femení, Aitana Bonmati triumphed with the La Liga title, the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League, where the Catalonian team prevailed over Wolfsburg in the final. She was also part of the Spain team that lifted the world title after success against England.
After the 25-year-old Aitana Bonmati, in the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or ranking remain Samantha Kerr, Salma Celeste Paralluelo, Fridolina Rolfo and Mary Earps.
In the previous two years, the winner of the award was Aitana Bonmati’s teammate Alexia Putellas. Now the prize is once again in the possession of a Spanish woman.
“I’m very proud to win the Ballon d’Or. Football is a collective sport so I’d like to extend this prize to my team-mates and staff. Pep Guardiola is a model for us. I didn’t watch him as a footballer, but I experienced the golden era with him, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta. These are the most the good days of my life”, said the happy Aitana Bonmati. “I hardly slept in the last days. Now I’m also a little nervous. This is a dream come true and the feeling is unique. I’m very happy to be part of Barcelona and the Spanish national team”, added the new Ballon d’Or winner.
