Adrianna Sulek broke her own national record in the pentathlon during the Polish Indoor Athletics Championships held in Torun. The Polish athlete won the gold medal with 4,860 points. She thus improved her previous top score of 4,851 points, with which she won a silver medal at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
After a successful morning session (8.33 sec in the hurdles, 1.89m in the high jump, 13.06m in the shot put and 6.56m in the long jump) Adrianna Sulek was the clear leader of the competition and had 3,906 points. To break the Polish record, the competitor needed to cover 800m in 2:11.30 min or better. After running at a strong and even pace, Adrianna Sulek achieved a time of 2:10.70 min, which meant that she improved the national record.
“The record was not an end in itself. It was just a stop before the European Championships. I know after this start that I won’t have to train anything. I can just focus on calm preparation for the start in Istanbul”, said Adrianna Sulek.
The most important start of the season is ahead of the competitor, i.e. the performance at the European Indoor Championships.
“I don’t want to talk about breaking the world record and 5,000 points right now. In Istanbul, I want to start 100% in each competition. Only before the 800-meter run will we count and think about records”, added Adrianna Sulek.
Meanwhile, Ewa Swoboda triumphed in the women’s 60m with 7.10 sec.
