Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova qualified for the semi-finals of the Wimbledon Women’s Tennis Championships for the first time in her career.
The 24-year-old tennis player eliminated the 4th-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) in the quarter-finals by 2-1 (6:4, 2:6, 6:4). The match lasted an hour and 58 minutes.
The Czech tennis player, who is a finalist at Roland Garros in 2019 and an Olympic silver medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Games, recovered from a 1:4 game deficit in the third set. Marketa Vondrousova won five games in a row and triumphed in the match.
She started the clash with Jessica Pegula with an early break, fell behind 1:2, but turned it around to 4:2 and won the first part. In the second set, the American was decisive, made two breaks and tied for 1-1.
This will be the second Grand Slam semifinal for Marketa Vondrousova, where will face Elina Svitolina, who eliminated the top-seeded Iga Swiatek in three-set battle.
