American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson runs the world’s fastest 100m time of the year, clocking 10.71sec during the US Championships in Eugene, Oregon, which is qualification for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.

The American improved the previous best time of 10.75sec set by Ivory athlete Marie-Josee Ta Lou on June 15. Sha’Carri Richardson also improved her personal best. The 23-year-old athlete missed the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after being penalized for testing positive for cannabis.

Brittany Brown finished second in the heats in 10.96sec and Tamara Clark was third in 11.02sec. The semi-finals and final will be held today.

Sha’Carri Richardson is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100m and 200m. She rose to fame in 2019 as a freshman at Louisiana State University, running 10.75sec to break the 100m collegiate record at the NCAA Division I Championships. This winning time made her one of the ten fastest women in history at 19 years old. In April 2021, Richardson ran a new personal best of 10.72sec, becoming the sixth fastest woman of all time (at the time) and the fourth-fastest American woman in history.
