World heptathlon champions Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Great Britain) and Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium) will compete in the long jump at the London Diamond League on July 23. The athletes will face also this winter’s European indoor champion Jazmin Sawyers (Great Britain) at the Olympic Stadium.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson has a personal best in the event of 6.93m. She has two victories in the long jump at the Olympic Stadium in London – in 2013 and 2016.
“I am very excited to compete in the long jump in London. It’s one of my favorite races on the calendar, it’s always great to race in front of a British crowd. The support is always the best in the world and with 45,000 people in the stands, the atmosphere is incredible for the athletes”, said Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
Nafissatou “Nafi” Thiam is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, winning the heptathlon event at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She is the only Belgian athlete, male or female, to successfully defend an Olympic title and only the second woman after Jackie Joyner-Kersee to win back-to-back Olympic titles in the event. Nafissatou Thiam won the gold medals at the 2017 and 2022 World Championships, and 2018 and 2022 European Championships as well as the silver medal at the 2019 World Championships.
“I’m looking forward to competing in the long jump in London. It’s been a few years since I competed there, but I have great memories of the World Championships. The tournament will be an important part of my preparation for the World Championships in Budapest”, said Nafissatou Thiam.
