World cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet hopes for a personal best in the 5,000m and a place on the podium at the World Championships in Budapest in August. The Kenyan long-distance runner won 5,000m gold at the Stockholm Diamond League in with 14:36.52 min.

“My aim now is to set a personal best in the 5,000m, so maybe I can try to do that in London if the conditions are good. My body is in perfect form, so anything is possible”, said Beatrice Chebet.

In Stockholm, the world silver medalist defeated the world indoor 3,000m champion Lemlem Hailu (14:38.06 min) and 18-year-old Medina Eisa (14:40.02 min) in the final lap.

It was Chebet’s second Diamond League win of the season following a first place 3,000m in Oslo on June 15th.

“The first thing was to win. The second to cope with the harsh conditions. Yes, the weather was not really good, but you need to run in all conditions. It was not easy to finish the race”, added the 23-year-old Beatrice Chebet. “I’m already thinking about the World Championships in Budapest, where my main goal is to get on the podium”, said the Kenyan athlete.

Beatrice Chebet is a Kenyan long-distance runner. In 2022, she won the silver medal in the 5,000m at the World Championships, and became Commonwealth, African and Diamond League champion. Chebet claimed the gold medal for the women’s senior race at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships. She took the world under-20 title in the 5000 m in 2018 and at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships.
