The reigning European indoor long jump silver medalist Larissa Iapichino recorded a prestigious victory at the Diamond League in Stockholm. The 20-year-old Italian athlete, the 2019 U20 girls’ continental champion, won with a mark of 6.69m (0.4 m/s). She recorded this score in her sixth attempt. However, Larissa Iapichino was on course to be out of the top three before the final attempt, having had a best of 6.27m in her first three outings in the sector, when the rain was very heavy. However, on her fourth attempt, the Italian recorded 6.67m (0.6m /sec) and led the ranking.
Olympic, world and European champion Malaika Mihambo (Germany) came in second with 6.66m (0.2m/sec) and multiple world and European indoor champion Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta (Serbia) was third with 6.58m (1.1m/sec).
Larissa Iapichino defeated several more serious names. European indoor champion Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (Ukraine) finished fourth with 6.55m (1.1m/sec). Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and World Outdoor silver and bronze medalist Ese Brume (Nigeria) took fifth position with 6.51m (-0.5m/sec), while Istanbul 2023 European indoor champion Jazmin Sawyers (Great Britain) remained in the last eighth position with 6.25m (0.4 m/sec).
