Former women’s tennis world number one Angelique Kerber plans to resume tournament participation at the start of next season following the birth of her daughter.

“I will return at the beginning of the next season with the clear goal of playing at the Australian Open in 2024”, said the German tennis player in an interview. “This also includes the preparatory competitions in Australia in January, and maybe also the United Cup with Germany. A return to the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne would be a real dream”, added Angelique Kerber.

After the birth of her daughter Liana in February, Angelique Kerber has been training again to get in shape.

“I already trained lightly in Poland at my tennis academy”, revealed the tennis player, who for the first time had a more intensive activity in the German city of Bad Homburg.

Angelique Kerber has been ranked as high as world No 1, for a total of 34 weeks, and won three major titles at the 2016 Australian Open, the 2016 US Open, and the 2018 Wimbledon. She is also an Olympic silver medalist and was the year-end world number one in 2016. She has total of 14 WTA titles.
