Aryna Sabalenka was eliminated in the second round of the WTA 500 German Open

Aryna Sabalenka German Open

The top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka was eliminated in the second round of the WTA 500 German Open in berlin. The Belarusian tennis player lost by 0-2 (2:6, 6:7) to Veronika Kudermetova (Russia). The match lasted exactly 100 minutes, and >Aryna Sabalenka was in the role of catching up in the result practically throughout the match.

Veronika Kudermetova, who last week reached the final of the WTA 250 Libema Open, took a 4:0 lead in the first set, which ended soon after.

The Russian was leading with a break at the beginning of the second set, but Aryna Sabalenka managed to equalize to 4:4. This led to a tiebreak, in which, however, Veronika Kudermetova again had the advantage and won it with 7-2 points.

In the quarterfinals, Veronika Kudermetova will play in an all-Russian clash with the champion from the last week’s final at WTA 250 Libema Open – Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Ekaterina Alexandrova continued her wonderful run on grass with a convincing 2-0 (6:4, 6:0) win over the 5th-seeded Cori Coco Gauff. The American led with a 3:1 game at the beginning of the match, but then made a bunch of mistakes, which allowed Ekaterina Alexandrova to turnover the match.

In another quarterfinal, Maria Sakkari (Greece), who defeated the 6th-seeded Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Belarus), will face Marketa Vondrousova (Czech Republic), who eliminated Jule Niemeier (Germany).
