Czech Republic and Montenegro advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Women’s Basketball Championship

The Czech Republic won the Round of 16 match of the European Women’s Basketball Championship versus Greece with 79-76 (22-22, 19-20, 20-19, 18-15) and qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament.

In the next phase, the Czech basketball players will face the winner of Group D Hungary.

The Round of 16 match was running draw and the last quarter started with a 61-61. The Greeks took the first lead with two accurate shots from a foul by Elena Tsineke, but the Czech Republic equalized with a basket by Veronika Sipova. Petra Holesinska scored for 65-63, and in the subsequent defense, Dominika Paurova won the ball under the basket and finished the attack herself for a four-point lead. In the end, the Greeks came close to three points, and Pinelopi Pavlopoulou failed to score a three-pointer with the siren.

Petra Holesinska was the most effective for the Czech Republic with 19 pts, 3 rebs, and 8 asts, while Veronika Sipova added 15 pts and 4 rebs and Natalie Stoupalova scored 10 pts, 1 reb, and 2 asts.

For the Greek basketball team, Maria Fasoula finished the match with 23 pts, 13 rebs, and 1 ast, while Artemis Spanou added 21 points, but this was not enough for their team to win the match.

In the other Round of 16 match from the day, Montenegro defeated Italy by 63-49 (22-8, 13-14, 13-9, 15-18) and also advanced to the quarter-finals.

Milica Jovanovic was the most valuable player for Montenegro with 17 pts, 8 rebs, and 1 ast, while Marija Lekovic 15 pts and 4 rebs. Olbis Andre was most effective for Italy, scoring 10 pts.
