Amanda Nunes retained the UFC Bantamweight belt after defeating Irene Aldana at UFC 289 via unanimous decision.
Amanda Nunes dominated her opponent to win a lopsided unanimous decision and notch the sixth defense of her bantamweight belt over her two title reigns. All three judges scored the bout a clean sweep in her favor, 50-44, 50-44, 50-43.
After the match, Amanda Nunes retired in the cage as the curtain came down on a stunning career. The 35-year-old Brazilian MMA fighter laid her gloves between her bantamweight and featherweight belts on the octagon floor, bringing an end to a sensational run that saw her become the first woman to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.
“Double champion forever, baby!”, said Amanda Nunes. “My mom was asking me so much to do this (retire) for so long, she can’t take it anymore. My partner as well, Nina, she’s been around so much with me my whole career… I decided right now I’m still young enough to enjoy everything that I made. I’ve got to travel, I want to be with my family”, added she.
Amanda Nunes is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist. She competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where she is the UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion and two-time UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. Widely regarded as the greatest female mixed martial artist of all time, Nunes is the first woman to become a two-division UFC champion, and the third fighter to hold UFC titles in two weight classes simultaneously, after Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier.
