The last year’s champion Iga Swiatek again qualified for the final of the Roland Garros tennis tournament. The Polish tennis player narrowly defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil) by 2-0 (6:2, 7:6) and ensured that she will remain at the top of the rankings regardless of whether she wins the title. Iga Swiatek’s opponent in the final will be Karolina Muchova (Czech Republic), who earlier today eliminated Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus).
Iga Swiatek dominated the first set with solid bottom court play. The two exchanged an early break, but after that the Polish player became much more aggressive and did not leave any chances to her rival.
Beatriz Haddad Maia, who is WTA No 14, changed her behavior on the court in the second part. She made it more and more difficult for Iga Swiatek with her returns and managed to take a 3:1 lead. Her opponent’s response was not long in coming and the score was quickly leveled.
The two did not make any other breaks and so it came to a tiebreak in which Beatriz Haddad Maia wasted a set points at 6:5. Iga Swiatek took the next two points, and while he didn’t close out the match on his first chance, he did on the second try.
If she wins the final against Karolina Muchova on Saturday, the Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek will lift her third title in Paris and fourth overall in Grand Slam tournaments.
