Iga Swiatek smashed Wang Xinyu to advance to the Round of 16 of the Roland Garros

Iga Swiatek Roland Garros

The two-time French Open champion and top-seeded Iga Swiatek recorded her most convincing win of the tournament as she prevailed by 2-0 (6:0, 6:0) over Wang Xinyu (China) in the third round.

The Polish tennis player closed out the match in just 50 minutes, winning 50 of the 67 points in the match and did not gave a single breakpoint to her opponent.

In the next round, Iga Swiatek will face Lesia Tsurenko Ukraine), who defeated the 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu (Canada) quite convinsingly as well by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1).

The last year’s Roland Garros finalist Cori Coco Gauff advanced to the fourth round. The 19-year-old American defeated by 2-1 (6:7, 6:1, 6:1) the 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva (Russia). Mirra Andreeva, who made her Grand Slam main draw debut at Roland Garros, played a very strong first set. In it, she and Cori Coco Gauff exchanged three breaks each, and in the tiebreak, the Russian showed stronger nerves and prevailed with 7-5 points.

However, the Russian’s strength ran out here and in the remaining two sets she took only two games, which showed that the American currently has much more arguments in matches of a similar scale.

For a place in the quarterfinals, Cori Coco Gauff will face Anna Karolína Schmiedlová (Slovakia), who eliminated Kayla Day (USA) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:3).

Bernarda Pera (USA) also advanced to the next round after defeating Elisabetta Cocciaretto (Italy) by 2-0 (6:4, 7:6) and in the Round of 16 will face Ons Jabeur (Tunisia), who had a hard match versus Olga Danilovic (Serbia), but prevailed after 2-1 (4:6, 6:4, 6:2).
