Iga Swiatek starts her Roland Garros title defense with a match against Cristina Bucsa

Iga Swiatek Roland Garros

Two-time French Open women’s tennis champion and top-seeded Iga Swiatek will begin her title defense with a match against Cristina Bucsa (Spain).

Both players have one match in their record, at the Australian Open this year, which was won by the Polish tennis player by 2-0 (6:0, 6:1).

If qualifying or the second round, the world’s number one will face either American Claire Liu or a qualifier. However, at this stage will end the easy matches for Iga Swiatek. She could face Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic) in the third round, the 2021 champion Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic) in the fourth round. In the quarterfinals, there may be a repeat of last year’s final, in which Iga Swiatek’s opponent was the American talent Cori Coco Gauff, while in the semi-finals a duel with the “Wimbledon” champion Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan).

The 4th-seeded Elena Rybakina is the leader of the second quarter. At the start of the tournament, the Kazakhstani tennis player will face a qualifier, and in the second round she will be able to meet the winner of the match between Danka Kovinic (Montenegro) and Linda Noskova (Czech Republic), while in the quarterfinals she could face two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova or Ons Jabeur (Tunisia).

Much easier is the lower half of the scheme, which is headed by the Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.

The Belarusian, who is the second seed in the main scheme, will play against Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) in the first round. The first serious obstacle for Aryna Sabalenka should not come until the fourth round, in which she can face the former leader in the world ranking Karolína Pliskova (Czech Republic). However, the Czech has a very difficult start, as in the first round she will have to play the finalist in the tournament for 2018 – Sloane Stephens (USA).

The 2017 champion, Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia), will play in the first round with Tereza Martincova (Czech Republic). Both are also in the lowest quarter of the scheme in which is also Aryna Sabalenka.

Among the other more interesting matches in the first round is the clash between Americans Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins. In the same quarter, the 8th-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) will play versus Karolína Muchova (Czech Republic).

In the top quarter of the scheme, two Grand Slam champions – Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) and Bianca Andreescu (Canada_ – will face in the first round.

The French Open, better known as Roland Garros, begins on Sunday, May 28 and will continue until June 10.
