World indoor high jump champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh promised to clear 2.00m at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi at the pre-competition press conference and did it, topping the world rankings for the season with exactly 2.00m. It was the 36th crossing of 2.00m level for the Ukrainian.
Laura Zialor of Great Britain finished second with 1.90m, with another Ukrainian athlete, Kateryna Tabashnyk, jumping 1.86m to finish third.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh is a Ukrainian high jumper. She was the Tokyo 2020 Olympics bronze medalist, 2019 and 2022 World Championships silver medalist, and 2022 World Indoor Championships gold medalist. At the 2022 Brussels Diamond League, Yaroslava Mahuchikh jumped 2.05m, which is her outdoor personal best and a Ukrainian record. In 2021, she achieved her indoor personal best of 2.06m, which is also a national record.
American Janee Kassanavoid won the women’s hammer throw event with 74.25m. The another American Janeah Stewart was second with 71.43m ahead of Poland’s world record-holder Anita Wlodarczyk – contesting her first competition since last June following injury – who ended up third with a 70.27m throw.
