France women’s volleyball team qualified a little surprisingly for the quarterfinals of the European Championship 2021. The team led by Emile Rousseaux defeated very hard and dramatically over one of the hosts – Croatia, with 3-2 (16:25, 25:21, 22:25, 25:22, 15:12) in a match of the Round of 16, played tonight in front of just over 800 spectators at the Stark Arena in Belgrade.
Thus, France continues to the quarterfinals, leveling its best ranking so far in the history of the European Championships. In the quarter-finals, the French will meet the reigning champions and hosts from Serbia, who would easily defeat Hungary with 3-0. The match will be on Wednesday (September 1).
The most useful for France was Lucille Gicquel with 25 points (2 blocks and 40% efficiency in attack) for the victory. Amelie Rotar (42% attack efficiency) and Helena Cazaute (1 block, 38% attack efficiency) added 18 and 17 points for success.
For the Croatian team, captain Samanta Fabris was above all with 26 points (2 blocks, 3 aces and 41% efficiency in attack). Beta Dumancic (5 blocks! And 59% attack efficiency) and Laura Milos (1 block, 41% attack efficiency) added 18 and 16 points, but their efforts were not enough to win.
