The UFC president Dana White announced that the third fight between Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena falls through because the later suffered an injury. The Venezuelan will be replaced by Irene Aldana and Amanda Nunes will still step into the octagon on June 10th in Vancouver, Canada.
According to Dana White, Julianna Pena broke her ribs and is unable to compete. Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena each have one win in their head-to-head fights. At the UFC 269 event, Julianna Pena shocked the world by knocking out Amanda Nunes, but in the rematch at UFC 277, Amanda Nunes regained the title with a dominant five-round performance.
Before the loss to Julianna Pena, Amanda Nunes had five consecutive successful defenses in the Bantamweight category. Amanda Nunes is also the champion in the higher featherweight division.
Irene Aldana was supposed to face Raquel Pennington on May 20th in contention for the division’s contender spot, but it appears the UFC has decided she deserves that spot without this fight. The Mexican fighter has four wins in her last five matches. The last two victories were achieved by impressive knockouts.
Irene Aldana has a personal record of 14-6-0 (W-L-D), while her opponent Amanda Nunes has a personal MMA record of 22-5-0 (W-L-D).
