Yuliya Chumachenko is a Ukrainian athlete who specializes in the high jump. She won the gold at the 2019 Universiade in Napoli, as well as the 2019 Summer Universiade in Kropyvnytskiy and the 2020 Balkan Indoor Championships in Istanbul. Yuliya Chumachenko is one of the top Ukrainian athletes and high jumpers. Her personal best is 1.94 m outdoors and 1.93 m indoors.
Yuliya Chumachenko, or Yuliia Chumachenko or Julia Chumachenko, was born on October 2, 1994, in Mykolayiv, Ukraine. She started competing as a junior in 2010, winning the gold at the Illichivsk Olympic Champions’ Prizes and Donetsk meeting. In 2013, she won the bronze at the Yalta Ukrainian University Championships, while in 2015 she won the gold at the Rieti IAAF World Challenge and silver at the Kirovograd Ukrainian U23 Championships.
Yuliya Chumachenko won the silver at the 2016 Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships and the 2016 Zaporozhye Ukrainian Club Championships. The same season she debuted in the Diamond League at the Shanghai Golden Grand Prix, finishing 6th. Yuliya Chumachenko also won the gold at the 2016 Lignano Sabbiadoro Meeting International Sport Solidarieta and silver at the Heusden-Zolder KBC Night of Athletics. She won several local events and meetings.
In 2017, the Ukrainian athlete won the gold at the Bydgoszcz European Athletics Festival and the Eaubonne Meeting Elite, as well as the silver at the Ostrava Czech Indoor Gala and the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships. She competed at the Beograd European Indoor Championships but failed to win the medal, finishing 9th.
Yuliya Chumachenko won the gold at the 2018 Sollentuna Folksam GP and the silver at the Sumy Ukrainian Indoor Championships. During the season she set her personal outdoor best of 1.94 m at a competition in her hometown Mykolayiv.
The season 2019 was the most successful for the Ukrainian athlete, who won the gold at the Universiade in Napoli, repeating her personal best of 1.94 m, as well as the silver at the Folksam Grand Prix and the bronze at the Memorial Josefa Odlozila in Praha. Indoors, she won the gold at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava.
Yuliya Chumachenko won the silver at the 2020 Ukrainian Championships, as well as the bronze at the 2020 Kladno Hazi A Kladenske Memorialy and the Cluj-Napoca Balkan Championships. During the season she won the gold at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava, as well as silver at the Orlen Cup. She also won gold at the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships and silver at the Istanbul Cup.
During the next years, Yuliya Chumachenko continue winning the gold at the prestigious athletics events and meetings. She won the titles at the 2021 Memorial Josefa Odlozila in Praha, 2022 Kladno hazí a Kladenske Memorialy, and 2022 Hvezdy v Nehvizdech, as well as the silver at the 2021 KBC Nacht van de Atletiek, the 2021 56. Internationales Pfingstsportfest in Rehlingen, and the 2022 Memorial Josef Odlozila. She also won the title at the 2022 Ukrainian Championships.
In 2023, during the indoor season, she won the silver at the Beskyd bar and Hvezdy v Nehvizdech.
Yuliya Chumachenko is definitely one of the most talented Ukrainian high jumpers. She is among the top European athletes and we will expect much higher results in the coming years.
