World number one and defending champion Iga Swiatek (Poland) and Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) will play for the second consecutive year in the final of the tennis tournament WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix In Stuttgart with a prize pool of 678,814 EUR.
Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) easily defeated Anastasia Potapova (Russia) in the semifinals with 2-0 (6:1, 6:2) in just 58 minutes.
The last year’s champion Iga Swiatek, qualified for the final after the retirement of the 4th-seeded Ons Jabeur after only 18 minutes on the court.
Ons Jabeur suffered the injury in the first game of the match, requested a medical timeout, then lasted two more games before deciding to leave the court.
“Also on the third point, I don’t know what happened. I was very excited to play with Iga today, it’s always fun between us. I wish her luck in the final. I’m sorry, I really tried to continue, but I couldn’t”, said Ons Jabeur.
Iga Swiatek will face the second-seeded and world’s No 2 Sabalenka in a repeat of last year’s Stuttgart final, which the Polish player won by 2-0 (6:2, 6:2). She will try to become the first tennis player to defend the title since Angelique Kerber in 2016.
