Indiana Fever signed Aliyah Boston in the first pick in the WNBA draft

Indiana Fever signed Aliyah Boston

Indiana Fever used the first pick in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft to sign wing Aliyah Boston from the University of South Carolina.

Aliyah Boston, a three-time All-America selection during her college career, will need to help the team of Indiana Fever, which finished 5-31 last season and missed the playoffs in the last six seasons. Until now, Indiana Fever has never had the right to the first pick in the draft.

“Just knowing me, I would say winning every single game, and I still think that can happen. I think we’re going to have a great team that’s going to compete. We’re going to continue to play for each other”, said Aliyah Boston. “So just getting a lot of wins, I think that’s the most important part, but also growing as players”, added she.

During her college career, the 195cm Aliyah Boston averaged 14.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game, winning the title with South Carolina in 2022 and was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player (MOP). That year, she also won Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors

She plays the power forward and center positions.

On April 1, 2023, Aliyah Boston declared for the 2023 WNBA Draft. She ended her four-year collegiate career with a record of 129 wins and 9 losses.

Indiana Fever later picked guard Grace Berger with the seventh overall selection. She is the first Hoosiers player to be picked in the first round.
