The 3rd-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA) defeated Anastasia Potapova (Russia) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:3, 7:6) and qualified for the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 Miami Open. The match lasted 2:38 hours and the American saved two match points before winning it.
Jessica Pegula started the match with a break and took a lead of 2:0 in the first set, but her opponent won the next four games and overturned the result in the set. Anastasia Potapova made a mistake in the 9th game, when she was serving for the set, but fixed this mistake with a break in the next game and thus closed the set at 6:4.
The second set started with a break for Anastasia Potapova, but Jessica Pegula succeeded to overturn the set after two breaks and lead by 4:2. She succeeded to make another break in the 9th game, which brought her the victory in the set by 6:3.
The last set was the most dramatic in the match. Jessica Pegula broke her opponent’s serve in the second game, leading by 2:0, but Anastasia Potapova overturned after winning the next four games to 2:4. Thus, the Russian player served for the match in the 10th game of the set. Anastasia Potapova led by 40-15 and received two match points, but Jessica Pegula succeeded to save them and after the longest game in the match, the American equalized to 5:5. The set entered into a tiebreak, which Jessica Pegula won undoubtedly by 7-2.
In the semi-finals, Jessica Pegula will face the 10th-seeded Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan), who defeated Martina Trevisan (Italy) by 2-0 (6:3, 6:0).
