Paula Badosa defeated Laura Siegemund to advance to the third round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open

Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa defeated Laura Siegemund (Germany) to advance to the third round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open. The Spanish player won by 2-1 (7:6, 4:6, 6:2) in a match that lasted almost 3 hours.

Paula Badosa started strongly the first set with two consecutive breaks and took a lead of 3:0. Her opponent succeeded to return into the match after returning one of the breaks immediately. However, Paula Badosa was still controlling the match and served for the game, when she made a mistake and allowed Laura Siegemund to equalize the score to 5:5. Thus the set went into a tiebreak, which the Spanish tennis player won by 7-2.

Laura Siegemund had a fly start to the second set, taking a lead of 3:0 with two breaks. Paula Badosa succeeded to return one of the breaks, but her opponent succeeded to keep the advantage by the end and closed the set at 6:4.

Paula Badosa made an early break in the third set and the turning stone was the third game, which was the longest in the match. However, the Spanish player succeeded to win it and did not give a breakpoint by the end of the match and even broke the opponent once to close the set at 6:2.

Thus, Paula Badosa qualified for the third round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open.

In the other matches, Elise Mertens (Belgium) defeated the 8th-seeded Daria Kasatkina (Russia) by 2-1 (4:6, 6:2, 6:2) and in the third round will face Petra Martic (Croatia), who eliminated Xiyu Wang (China) after 2-0 (6:3, 6:3).

Danielle Collins (USA) had some difficulties in the first set versus the “lucky loser” Viktoriya Tomova (Bulgaria) but finally won the match by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2). In the next round she will play versus the 3rd-seeded Jessica Pegula (USA), achieved a straight-set victory versus Katherine Sebov (Canada).

The 15th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova (Russia) eliminated the qualifier Viktorija Golubic (Switzerland) by 2-0 (6:1, 6:1), while Qinwen Zheng (China) defeated Irina-Camelia Begu (Romania) by 2-1 (2:6, 6:1, 6:1).
