The winner of the big Crystal Globe in biathlon Marte Olsbu Roiseland from Norway announced that she is ending her career at the end of the current season. She is doing this because of her health problems.
“Biathlon will forever be in my heart and it is with great emotion that I announce today that Holmekollen will be my last World Cup competition”, said the 32-year-old biathlete, considered in her homeland as one of the best biathletes in history. “It feels weird, it’s sad, but it’s also incredibly easy. I can’t wait to enjoy what life has to offer”, added she.
Marte Olsbu Roiseland, a three-time Olympic champion, has had a difficult season after contracting a virus last summer which hampered her training. She joined the competitions only in the month of January.
Having won the World Cup in 2022, the Norwegian is currently only 15th in the overall standings, a long way behind France’s Julia Simon, who is the leader.
“I don’t have the motivation to train every day to be the best I can be”, she explained. “And since I don’t have that motivation, I think it’s better to stop”, added Marte Olsbu Roiseland.
At the Beijing 2022 Olympics, Marte Olsbu Roiseland won three gold medals (two individual and one with the relay) as well as two bronze medals.
At the World Championships in Antholz-Anterselva (Italy) in 2020, she won seven medals in the seven disciplines in which she participated.
Throughout her career, she has won 13 gold medals at World Championships.
