Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has revealed that the wrist injury that ended her 2022 season has recurred, although she hopes to continue her participation in the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open. Emma Raducanu’s 2022 season was cut preliminary by a right wrist problem, and she missed last week’s tournament in Austin (USA) with a sore throat.
The British tennis talent trained with bandages on both wrists on Wednesday ahead of her Indian Wells opener against Danka Kovinic, which she won by 2-0 (6:2, 6:3).
Asked about her fitness, Emma Raducanu told that she has the same problem with her wrists.
“The same problem I had last year started to come back again. I was definitely handling the workload. It’s something that just came back, so I’m trying to be as cautious as possible. I’m going to do my best to play”, said Emma Raducanu.
Her recent throat problems are the latest since the start of 2023, in which she has played just four games. The 20-year-old British tennis player added that she was frustrated with her lack of court time.
“It affected me badly in the short term, so I didn’t prepare much. I’ve probably never felt so sick in my life”, said Emma Raducanu.
