Donna Vekic won the title at the WTA 250 Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico. In the final, the Croatian tennis player defeated Caroline Garcia (France) by 2-1 (6:4, 3:6, 7:5) in a match that lasted 2:31 hours.
This is the second WTA final lost by Caroline Garcia since the beginning of the year and the first WTA title for Donna Vekic since December 2021.
The Croatian tennis player won the first set with only one break, which was enough for her to close it by 6:4, saving three breakpoints in the last game. The second set started with an early break for Donna Vekic, who got a comfortable lead, but her opponent stabilized and made two breaks, to turn over the set in her favor and finally lose it at 6:4.
The third decisive set started very through for the Croatian player, who needed to save four breakpoints in the very first game before finally winning it. The same happened in the 7th game of the set, in which Donna Vekic also saved four breakpoints and finally succeeded to win it. Thus, the result was moving equally until the 12th game at 6:5 and serve for Caroline Garcia. The French player made terrible mistakes and lost on zero, which gave the victory and the title to Donna Vekic.
This is the fourth WTA title for Donna Vekic, who is a quarter-finalist in the Australian Open 2023.
