Ebba Andersson won her second world title at the cross-country skiing world championships in Planica

Ebba Andersson cross-country skiing champion

Sweden’s skier Ebba Andersson won her second world title at the cross-country skiing world championships in Planica (Slovenia) after triumphing in the mass start of the 30km classic style. Thus, she brought the first gold for her country in this discipline.

Ebba Andersson broke away from the main group just before the halfway point and won with a time of 1:22.18.0 hours.

The Swedish cross-country skier took four honors from the championships in Planica after winning the skiathlon title, plus bronze in the 10km and with her country’s relay. She steadily increased her lead after breaking away with around 13km to go, leading by more than a minute at times and finishing 53 sec ahead of Norway’s Anne Kjersti Kalva.

Frida Karlsson (Sweden) again missed out on the individual title after winning bronze with a time of 54.2 sec, as in 2019 and 2021. She now has eight silver and bronze medals in individual starts at the World Championships.

Ebba Andersson’s gold was Sweden’s fourth in six women’s cross-country skiing events in Planica, and the nation is now the strongest since the retirement of Norwegian superstar Therese Johaug from the sport last year.

Ebba Kristina Andersson is a Swedish cross-country skie, who competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti, Finland. In the 2018 Olympics, she finished fourth in the skiathlon, 0.8 seconds behind bronze medalist Krista Parmakoski.
