American duo April Ross-Alix Klineman won the title in the women’s beach volleyball tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In the final, April Ross and Alix Klineman defeated Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar with 2-0 (21:15, 21:16).
The Americans started the first game strongly and dominated until the end of the match, which lasted 43 minutes.
April Ross is a silver medalist from London 2012 and a bronze medalist from Rio 2016, but with a different teammate.
In the bronze medal match, the Swiss Joana Heidrich and Anouk Verge-Depre defeated Latvians Anastasija Kravcenoka and Tīna Graudiņa with 2-0 (21:19, 21:15) for 44 minutes.
The bronze was Switzerland’s first in a women’s beach volleyball Olympic tournament, although the country won a men’s bronze medal in Athens in 2004.
The United States, the birthplace of beach volleyball, and Brazil have dominated medals since it became an Olympic sport in 1996, winning 9 of 12 gold medals to date.
