Dina Asher-Smith broke the British 60m record

Dina Asher-Smith British 60m record

Dina Asher-Smith continues to show excellent form just days before the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul. The 200m world champion broke her own British 60m record after finishing in 7.03 sec at the World Indoor Athletics Tour finals in Birmingham.

“I am really happy”, said Dina Asher-Smith, before confessing to having mixed emotions. “But I was actually coming here for a 6.9”, added she.

Dina Asher-Smith previously held the national record of 7.04 sec from Karlsruhe in January.

“Normally we do well to separate track life and our personal life. But sometimes things are so big, you can’t help your response. It was a really challenging year for me, but – and I know this sounds crazy – it was not really physical. It was more as a human being. We’re all humans, we all have the ups and downs of adult life”, said also the British sprinter.

Geraldina “Dina” Rachel Asher-Smith is a British athlete. She is the fastest British woman on record. She won a gold medal in the 200m, silver in the 100m and another silver in the 4x100m relay at the 2019 World Championships, breaking her own British records with further records which still stand. Aged 24, Dina Asher-Smith was the first Briton to win three medals at a World Championships. She earned a bronze in the 200 m at the 2022 World Championships. As part of 4x100m relay teams, she won medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and also at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships.
