Milica Gardasevic overjumped Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta at the Serbia Indoor Athletics Championships

Milica Gardasevic presented one of the surprises of the national indoor athletics championship of Serbia, which was held in Belgrade. The 24-year-old athlete improved her personal record in the long jump and won the gold with 6.90m. She overtook the two-time indoor world champion Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta, who was second with 6.81 m.

“In principle, this was supposed to be the last competition before the European Championship, in the end, I had to stop the competition because I felt some pain in my foot. I performed in Berlin where I didn’t plan, I was disturbed by the conceptual and physical background. I’m doing what I’m doing, stage by stage, and it remains to attack that gold for the fourth time”, said Ivana Spanovic-Vuleta. “I learned something through my career! It’s pointless to force anything, I just don’t want it to get worse. Just a reaction to the change of background and the change from Berlin. Nothing to worry about, I have two weeks to rest and go to Istanbul. I like to perform at home, those have always been my favorite competitions and at the age of 33 I jump with our youngest and most promising competitors. I am there for them and everyone knows that they can expect maximum support from me, I try to help them in every possible way. I am glad that I am also participating in their development, and on the other hand, I am also grateful for the support I have”, added she.

Milica Gardasevic jumped to a personal best in the first attempt and recorded a result of 6.73m. Then she failed in the second and third attempts, and in the fourth, she made an even better result of 6.74m. In the fifth series, she stepped on the line once again, and in the sixth she jumped 6.90m, which is currently the second result in the world in the long jump.
