The top seeds Iga Swiatek (Poland) and Jessica Pegula (USA) will play in the final of the WTA 500 Qatar TotalEnergies Open tennis tournament in Doha with a prize fund of 780,000 USD.
The world’s number one Iga Swiatek cruised to a convincing 2-0 (6:0, 6:1) victory over Russian player Veronika Kudermetova in just 56 minutes after taking the first seven games of the match.
Second-seeded Jessica Pegula eliminated significantly more difficult fifth-seeded Maria Sakkari (Greece) by 2-1 (6:2, 4:6, 6:1) in nearly two hours on the court. The American reached her first final of 2023 and the sixth of her career.
Jessica Pegula broke three times on her way to victory in the first set, but lost the second set after the Greek broke her in the tenth game. In the third set, the American tennis player completely dominated and gave only a game to her rival to close the match with her second match point.
