The leader in the world rankings for the season in the high jump with 2.02m Yaroslava Mahuchikh achieved her third victory in four years at the special high jump tournament in Banska Bystrica. The Ukrainian won yesterday with 1.97m, which she overcame on the first attempt. Yaroslava Mahuchikh, 21, who holds the tournament record of 2.06m from 2021, also attempted 2.04m but was unsuccessful.
Last year’s World bronze medalist in Eugene, Elena Vallortigara (Italy) finished second with 1.95m, and third with the same result was European silver medalist from Munich 2022, Marija Vukovic (Montenegro).
“I know I’m physically ready to jump even higher than 2.04m. I feel strong and, unfortunately, I’m still trying to use all my power on the track, losing lightness and speed in my last steps. I can’t be satisfied with a result like 1.97m, but I’m very happy with the first place here, because I hope that every victory I have in the high jump is my small contribution to the most recent victory of Ukraine”, said Yaroslava Mahuchikh after another success in the sector.
